A concentrated, old-vine expression from Heathcote, this 2004 Max's Garden opens with a bouquet of ripe black fruits, peppered spice and savory leather. On the palate it delivers dense dark fruit framed by firm, polished tannins and an undercurrent of earthy minerality that carries through a long, spicy finish. Produced by Two Hands with Ben Perkins at the helm, the wine reflects careful vineyard selection and small-batch winemaking—hand-harvested fruit, thoughtful extraction and time in oak to build structure and complexity. The vineyard sits on Heathcote's characteristic red soils with warm days and cool nights, producing fruit with ripe concentration and clear regional character. Best decanted for an hour to reveal layered aromatics; pairs superbly with grilled red meats, game and mature cheeses.

Two Hands Wines, founded and run with a focus on site-driven fruit and careful winemaking, has built a reputation for powerful, expressive reds. For this bottling the team—led by winemaker Ben Perkins with ownership by Michael Twelftree and viticultural input from Travis Coombe—sources fruit from select Heathcote parcels. Small-lot fermentation, considered extraction and maturation in oak are used to preserve varietal character while adding structure and age-worthiness.
