1985 Chateau Sociando Mallet

Soul Hook: A classic Haut-Médoc veteran—dark-fruited, subtly mineral and built for the table.

Why choose it?
1) Traditional estate winemaking -> Authentic flavour profile with natural yeasts and careful vat work for depth and harmony.
2) Mature complexity -> Decades in bottle yield integrated oak, tertiary notes and steady freshness that reward patient drinking.
3) Proven pedigree -> Consistently high critic scores and a long drinking window give confidence at the table.

Sommelier Notes: On first pour this 1985 shows deep garnet with hints of brick at the rim. Aromas of black cherry, dried plum, cedar and a touch of vanilla lead into a poised palate—bold yet measured. Medium-set tannins frame dense fruit; minerality and a cool acidity keep it focused. Expect a long, satisfying finish rather than overt flamboyance.

Occasion / Pairing: Perfect for a celebratory roast or a refined steak night. Try with ribeye on the bone, venison or a selection of aged cheeses. In Hong Kong: a special weekend dinner at home, a Cantonese-style roast beef course, or a small dinner-party to impress guests.

Winemaking & Vineyard Notes: Sourced from the Haut-Médoc, harvested by hand and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats with native yeasts. Aged in oak for about 12 months, the style is classic—structured, ageworthy and straightforward. The maritime influence of the Médoc lends freshness that balances the wine’s weight.

Competitive Edge: Offers mature Bordeaux character and length without the mega-premium price of first-growths—excellent value for collectors and diners who want a serious, ready-to-drink claret.
