A fine drop of Ardbeg bottled at cask strength. A marriage of Ardbeg from bourbon barrels and sherry butts which gives a sweet and smoky finish to this malt. Uigeadail is the loch from which all Ardbeg water flows. An absolutely stunning whisky, and following the demise of Airigh nam Beist, this probably represents the best value in the core range.

Tasting note: Deep amber-gold in the glass, Ardbeg Uigeadail opens with a rush of coastal peat smoke tempered by rich sherry-cask sweetness — chocolate-coated raisins, treacle toffee and warm Christmas cake spices. The nose also offers cedar, pine needles, leather and a saline ocean breeze. On the palate it is full-bodied and mouth-coating: concentrated smoke and tar sit alongside honey-glazed savoury notes, espresso roast, candied orange and a chewy, syrupy mid-palate. A burst of winter spice and dark chocolate completes a long, smoky caramel finish. Producer notes: Pronounced “Oog-a-dal”, Uigeadail is Ardbeg’s signature vatting that marries spirit matured in ex-sherry casks with bourbon-seasoned casks and is bottled at robust strength. Voted a favourite by the Ardbeg Committee, it celebrates the distillery’s house style — intense peat balanced by luscious, raisiny cask influence. Distillation & maturation notes: Distilled on Islay to accentuate phenolic peat character, this bottling is a non-age-statement marriage of casks with a heavy contribution from old sherry wood. The combination delivers concentrated dried fruit sweetness and dried nut notes alongside pronounced maritime smoke and toasted oak. Bottled at cask strength, it responds well to a few drops of water or a short rest in glass to soften alcohol edges and open aromatics. Terroir & site: Made on the rugged southern coast of Islay, Ardbeg captures the island’s peat bogs, salty sea air and wind-swept heather. The distillery’s location and traditional malting/distillation regime are central to the whisky’s smoky, maritime personality.
