Tasting note: Rich and coastal, this Distillers Edition has been double-matured in Amoroso sherry casks to layer sweet dried-fruit character over Talisker’s signature maritime smoke. On the nose: warm toffee, raisins, a lash of dark chocolate and oak spice, with sea-salt and peat smoke weaving through. Palate: full-bodied and oily, delivering concentrated dried fruit, creamy caramel, black pepper and a grilled-wood spice that builds alongside coastal salinity. Finish: long, warming and gently smoky with lingering sweet-sherry notes. Producer notes: Talisker’s Distillers Edition is a selective release where the spirit is finished in Amoroso sherry casks to marry the distillery’s peppery smokiness with plush sherry sweetness. This release (2022) presents an expressive balance between island character and cask-driven richness. Winemaking/distillation notes: Produced at Talisker’s single malt distillery on the Isle of Skye, the whisky is distilled in traditional copper pot stills and allowed a second maturation in Amoroso sherry-seasoned oak, which imparts dried-fruit richness and deeper colour. Careful cask selection and extended marrying in the bottle contribute to the polished mouthfeel. Vineyard/terroir notes (translated for whisky): Sourced from island-grown barley and malted under local conditions, Talisker reflects Skye’s maritime climate — cool, saline air and peat-smoke from local bogs — all of which feed into the malt, giving the spirit its coastal, peppery backbone. Service suggestion: Serve neat in a tulip glass, allow about 10–20 minutes of breathing after pouring (or add a few drops of water) to open the sherry and smoke layers.
