Tasting Note: Fresh and poised, the 2020 Duluc de Branaire-Ducru opens with a polished bouquet of blackcurrant and plum layered with cedar, graphite and a hint of tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate it shows medium-plus body, bright but balanced acidity and firm, well-knit tannins framed by tasteful French oak. The finish is persistent, revealing mineral streaks and tobacco spice. Producer Notes: Brought to you by the same family hand behind Branaire-Ducru, this cuvée is described as more outgoing and playful while retaining the estate’s hallmark purity and class. It’s approachable in youth but built to reward some cellaring. Winemaking Notes: Grapes are hand-harvested and parcels are vinified separately; extended macerations can run up to three weeks to extract ripe phenolics. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for at least twelve months, with selected timber from premier forests and a regular renewal of barrels to maintain freshness. Vineyard Notes: From Saint-Julien’s warm gravel and siliceous alluvial mounds overlooking the Gironde, the vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and heat-retaining soils. The estate’s mosaic of micro-terroirs and an average vine age of around 35 years help deliver ripe, concentrated fruit and clear varietal expression without losing finesse.
