Tasting note: Bright, poised and distinctly Côte de Nuits in character, this Nuits‑Saint‑Georges opens with a perfume of red cherry, raspberry and a hint of wild strawberry, overlaid by violet florals and subtle forest-floor complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with lively acidity and fine, silky tannins; flavors of sour cherry, crushed red berries and a savoury undercurrent of mushroom, damp earth and gentle sweet spice follow through to a persistent, mineral-tinged finish. Producer notes: From the respected Bertrand Machard de Gramont domaine, Les Terrasses des Vallerots is crafted with careful attention to terroir expression. The domaine favors low yields and hands-on viticulture to capture the site’s stony soils and balanced ripeness in every vintage. Winemaking notes: Fruit is hand-harvested, gently destemmed and fermented with attention to skin contact to preserve aromatic lift. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels with a moderate proportion of new wood, allowing the fruit’s purity and mineral drive to remain front and centre over roughly a year of élevage. Vineyard notes: Planted on terraced slopes above Nuits‑Saint‑Georges, the vineyard benefits from well‑drained limestone and clay soils and good exposure, giving wines clarity, saline minerality and refined structure. Expect this 2023 to drink well now with short decanting or to develop further complexity over the next 4–10 years.
