Sommelier's Notes: On the nose this 2014 opens with ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, folding into floral, mineral and gentle spice layers. Oak adds coffee and vanilla threads that are already well married to the fruit. The palate is juicy and fleshy, with fresh acidity and finely-grained tannins that support a long, harmonious finish. Château Durfort-Vivens, a 2ème Grand Cru Classé in Margaux, is owned by Gonzague Lurton. The estate spans some 65 hectares (55 ha planted) on deep Quaternary gravels with sand and clay. The 2014 vintage was managed in its second year of biodynamic conversion. Vinification is plot-specific with natural yeasts, gentle extraction (pumping over once daily), 21 days maceration and 18 months ageing (50% new French oak, also amphora). The result is classical Margaux elegance with artisanal attention to detail.
