2020 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle Musigny Combe d'Orveau

Tasting Note: Bright ruby in the glass, this Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru opens with a graceful bouquet of red cherry, raspberry and red currant framed by rose and violet florals. The palate is elegant and refined — silky, fine-grained tannins carry juicy red fruit and a cool, stony mineral thread. The finish is persistent, with floral echoes and a subtle spicy, earthy undercurrent.

Producer Notes: Domaine Anne Gros describes this cuvée as one of the more approachable Chambolles thanks to its lower acidity and balanced phenolic ripeness. The wine typically shows a beautiful ruby hue and a delicate profile: red fruits up front with floral nuances that give immediate charm.

Winemaking: Vinification follows traditional domaine methods — controlled-temperature fermentations in lined cement for reds, with a 12–15 day ferment and careful blending of free-run and press fractions after at least 48 hours of settling. Barrel ageing is carried out at the domaine for approximately 16 months, with a high proportion of new oak used on top-level cuvées to give structure and spice while preserving the wine's finesse.

Vineyard Notes: The 1.10 ha parcel sits at the southern edge of Chambolle, east-facing in the Combe d’Orveau, opening onto an anticlinal valley beneath grands crus such as Échezeaux and Clos de Vougeot. Soils are very stony, rich in scree and fine-grained over white marl; the parcel combines roughly equal plantings of 30-year-old and 5-year-old vines. The site has a more extreme microclimate — colder winters, hotter summers — and wooded surrounds that can make autumns more humid, all contributing to the wine’s tension and mineral signature.
