Tasting note

A powerhouse from Paso Robles, the 2014 Estate Cuvée is densely concentrated and luxuriously textured. Aromas of black berry compote, cassis and dark chocolate rise from the glass, layered with violet, black pepper and smoky French oak. On the palate it is full-bodied, richly fruited and framed by firm, ripe tannins and savory, espresso-tinged oak; acidity provides shape while a long, resonant finish lingers. Producer notes emphasize meticulous estate farming and tiny yields; the wine spent 15 months in French oak (81% new) with malolactic fermentation in barrel. Best served after decanting to reveal complex tertiary notes—an ideal partner for robust grilled or braised meats and richly spiced dishes.

Winery

L'Aventure was founded by Stephan Asseo, a Bordeaux-trained winemaker who left France to pursue his own style. After establishing roots in west Paso Robles in 1998, Asseo and his family built a reputation for high-density plantings, low yields and a Burgundian attention to detail, producing powerful, Old World-influenced wines matured predominantly in French oak.
