The 2020 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Meal is a bold and structured red wine from the renowned Hermitage appellation in the Rhone Valley. This wine boasts a deep garnet red color with purple lights in its youth. On the nose, it reveals ripe fruits and smoky aromas. The palate is powerful with velvety tannins and flavors of blackberry jam. This wine is crafted from 100% Syrah grapes, hand-harvested from the Méal hillside, known for its high terraces of shingles and clay. The vines are about 50 years old, and the wine is vinified in small cement vats with high-temperature maceration to extract soft and stable tannins. The wine is matured in new or one-year-old casks for 14 to 18 months, with natural clarification. This wine can be kept for 30 to 60 years, and even up to 75 years in exceptional vintages. Pair it with grilled lamb, beef stew, aged cheeses, or roasted duck for a delightful experience.
