2020 Chateau Cos d'Estournel (1500 ml)

1) 2ème Grand Cru Classé

Soul Hook: Power wrapped in perfume — a Saint‑Estèphe that pairs muscular structure with an exotic spice thread.

Why choose it?
1) 2ème Grand Cru Classé pedigree -> Proven quality and serious cellaring value.
2) 2020 balance of opulence and freshness -> immediate pleasure today, tremendous reward over decades.
3) 14 months careful élevage in oak -> spice, toast and polished structure without heaviness.

Sommelier's private note: This 2020 Cos d'Estournel opens with dense black fruits — cassis and blackberry — then drifts into layers of black tea, nutmeg and cedar. The mid-palate is full and concentrated, tannins are firm yet finely grained, acidity keeps the palate lively. Expect a long, evolving finish where dark chocolate and graphite return. Decant 60–90 minutes for best immediate expression; otherwise cellar for 5–15+ years.

Occasion (pairing & moments): Ideal centrepiece for a celebratory steak dinner, a festive roast or sharing with a mature cheese board. Works brilliantly for a milestone birthday meal at a hotel steakhouse or a quiet Cantonese banquet when you want a bold red to match richer sauces.

Competitive edge: Delivers Grand Cru intensity and layering at a price that undercuts many top-tier rivals — collectible, showy and built for both early reward and long ageing.

Winery

Chateau Cos d'Estournel — a storied Second Growth on the Saint‑Estèphe plateau, now under Michel Reybier’s ownership. The estate is famed for blending classic Médoc structure with exotic spice notes and attentive élevage. Vineyards sit on well‑drained gravel and clay, producing wines that combine power, freshness and long ageing potential. The Grand Vin typically sees around 14 months in oak, aiming for balance between fruit intensity and refined tannin.
