Description

The mineral-laced 2005 Haut Brion (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is exquisite. With its elegance and finesse, it is not as powerful as La Mission, but the nobility and complexity of the aromatics, incredible fragrance (subtle smoke and blue, red, and black fruits) that persists in the glass, full-bodied mouthfeel (though very light and delicate on its feet), and incredible length characterize this great Haut-Brion. It is just starting to drink well, and should continue to do so for at least another three decades. It is a tour de force in winemaking, but only 9,000 cases were produced.

The 2005 Chateau Haut-Brion is a wine of remarkable depth and complexity. Its color is so dense that it appears almost black. The nose is intensely aromatic, with notes of smoke, cigar, and roasted coffee beans, complemented by fresh fruit aromas of currants and cherries. On the palate, this wine is dense, creamy, and powerful, with a long, fresh finish. The 2005 vintage is known for its power and harmony, with an incredibly long aromatic persistence. This wine is a true testament to the exceptional quality of Chateau Haut-Brion.

Chateau Haut-Brion is located in the commune of Pessac, just a few miles southwest of Bordeaux’s city center. It is the only wine to be both a First Growth from the 1855 classification and a Classified Growth of the Graves. The vineyard benefits from a unique terroir, with gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and reflect heat onto the vines, promoting even ripening. The winemaking process at Chateau Haut-Brion is meticulous, with precise temperature control during fermentation and careful selection of the best wines for aging in French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months.
