Description

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London and then blind at Farr Vintners horizontal, the 2006 Château Léoville Las-Cases has a very complex bouquet with heady scents of blackcurrant, kirsch, crushed violets, rock salt and just a hint of cassis. It is backward and can barely contain its energy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very symmetrical and poised, a fine line of acidity interwoven through the black fruit, touches of citrus fruit developing towards the poised and tensile finish. This is a beautiful wine from Jean-Hubert Delon, but it needs several years in bottle. Tasted April 2016.

Tasting note

The 2006 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 'Grand Vin de Leoville' is a remarkable wine from the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux. This wine showcases a deep ruby color and offers a complex bouquet of cassis, blackberry, leather, and smoky notes. On the palate, it is elegant yet powerful, with a firm tannic structure and a long, persistent finish. The wine is crafted from exceptional terroirs within the Clos Léoville Las Cases, primarily featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The 2006 vintage benefited from a cool spring, a hot July, and a dry harvest period, resulting in a wine of great depth and character. Ideal for pairing with grilled lamb chops, beef Wellington, aged cheddar cheese, or mushroom risotto.
