2012 Domaine Louis Latour Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru Les Quatre Journaux
Soul Hook: A poised Grand Cru from one of Burgundy’s oldest houses—intense, spicy and impeccably structured.
Why choose it?
- Grand Cru provenance -> Proven terroir and long ageing potential, a serious cellar candidate.
- 100% new French oak (10–12 months) -> Adds refined spice and fine-grained structure without dulling purity.
- Small parcel, hand-harvested -> Concentration and rarity that reward the table and the cellar.
Sommelier’s Notes: The 2012 Les Quatre Journaux opens with a deep ruby core and a heady bouquet of blackcurrant, mocha and nutmeg, edged by forest floor and mineral nuances. On the palate it shows velvety mid-palate density, precise acidity and layered spice—liquorice and gingerbread linger into a long, powerful finish. Tannins are present but polished by careful cooperage and time.
Winemaking & Vineyard: Traditional fermentation in open vats, followed by 10–12 months in 100% new French oak from Louis Latour cooperage. The parcel sits on iron-rich clay soils; yields are low and harvest is by hand, producing concentrated fruit from 0.8 hectares owned by the domaine.
Occasion / Pairing: Decant for an hour and serve with roast duck or game at a celebratory dinner—also rewarding with mature cheese. Ideal for holiday feasts, anniversary suppers, or as a showpiece at a wine-focused dinner.
Competitive Edge: Offers Grand Cru quality and proximity to famous neighbours (a few metres from Romanée-Conti) at a noticeably more accessible price point—distinguished terroir expression with Maison Louis Latour’s consistent craftsmanship.
