A Grand Cru from a small parcel in Clos de Vougeot, this 2013 delivers concentrated aromatics and a powerful yet refined palate. The bouquet opens with dense red and black fruit — cherries, mulberries and blackcurrant — lifted by vanilla, spice and floral violet notes, with an undercurrent of woodland earth and, with time, subtle animalic complexity. On the palate it is ample and muscular but balanced: fleshy, generous mid-palate weight, fine-grained tannins and a discreet acidity that keeps the wine poised. Hand-harvested and sorted, fermentation and élevage were conducted with significant new oak (about 80–100% new barrels), lending spice and structure while preserving primary fruit. Vines average 45–50 years on hard limestone with low clay, and the domaine works small, carefully tended holdings to achieve concentration. Best enjoyed after a good decant (60–90 minutes) or further cellaring; pairs superbly with richer poultry, game and mature cheeses.

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is a family-run Côte de Nuits domaine under the ownership of Jean Mongeard. The estate farms small, often historic parcels with vines averaging several decades old. Their Clos de Vougeot holdings are worked with traditional Burgundian care: hand harvest, meticulous sorting in the winery, and élevage in a high proportion of new oak to marry power with finesse. The domaine's style emphasizes concentration, texture and aromatic complexity.
