The Aux Combottes vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin is officially classified as a 1er Cru, but its location tells a different story. It is completely surrounded by Grand Crus: Latricières-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin, and Griotte-Chambertin. In other words, it sits right in the heart of grand cru territory—yet wears a 1er Cru badge.
