The traditionally acclaimed “king of white wines,” Pessac-Léognan, now faces challenges due to rising temperatures. But this doesn't mean the end of Bordeaux whites — rather, it signals the rise of another region. According to our observations at King's Wine Cellar, more and more attention is turning to Barsac, a classic sweet wine appellation.
點解係Barsac?/ Why Barsac?
Barsac位於波爾多南部的Graves產區內,土壤以沙質黏土石灰岩(Sandy-Clay-Limestone)為主。呢種土壤天生涼爽,能夠鎖住水分,有效延緩葡萄嘅生長速度,從而保留珍貴嘅酸度。相比之下,Pessac嘅礫石土壤雖然排水良好,但喺炎熱年份容易令葡萄過早成熟。
Barsac lies within the Graves region of southern Bordeaux, featuring sandy-clay-limestone soils. These soils are naturally cooler, retain moisture, and effectively slow down grape ripening, thereby preserving precious acidity. In contrast, the gravelly soils of Pessac, while well-drained, tend to induce early ripening in hot vintages.
