2021 Domaine Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru 'Morgeot Vigne Blanche

Soul Hook: Pure Premier Cru precision — citrus clarity wrapped in toasted hazelnut and warm brioche. Why choose it? 1) Premier Cru terroir -> bright mineral core and real ageing potential; 2) Traditional barrel élevage -> creamy, layered texture with subtle spice rather than overt oak; 3) Low-yield viticulture -> concentrated fruit and focused length. Sommelier's Private Note: 2021 Chateau de la Maltroye Morgeot Vigne Blanche opens with lemon blossom, white peach and fine-toasted hazelnut; mid-palate shows ripe orchard fruit, a gentle brioche note from barrel ageing and a saline, stony backbone that keeps the profile taut. Texturally it sits between medium and full — silk with grip — finishing long and clean. Producer & winemaking: From a respected Chassagne domaine, grapes are hand-harvested from the Vigne Blanche parcel, pressed gently, barrel-fermented with partial malolactic conversion and aged 12–18 months in French oak (small proportion of new). Vineyard notes: East–southeast exposures on Morgeot’s limestone-clay slopes, old vines and strict yields produce concentrated, mineral-driven fruit. Occasion & Serving: Chill to 10–12°C, decant ~45 minutes to bloom. Perfect for a special seafood course, a roast poultry centrepiece, or a mature cheese board. Competitive Edge: Offers the clarity, minerality and barrel complexity of top-tier white Burgundy at a value point that undercuts the most famous names — depth without showy new oak. Decant/Serve tip: open 45 minutes ahead, serve slightly cooler than room temperature to preserve freshness.
