2002 Domaine Robert Arnoux Vosne Romanee 1er Chaumes
Tasting Note: A refined Premier Cru showing ripe red fruits—cherry and raspberry—lifted by dried rose and subtle undergrowth aromas. Secondary notes of leather, forest floor and warm spice weave through a palate of silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Balanced acidity keeps the wine lively while cedar and gentle vanilla from barrel aging frame the finish.
Producer & Vineyard: From the Les Chaumes premier cru slopes of Vosne-Romanée, this bottling comes from a small, traditionally minded domaine now under Charles Lachaux. The vines sit on classic Côte de Nuits calcareous-clay soils with good exposition and low yields, focusing on concentration and site expression.
Winemaking: Crafted with classic Burgundian attention—careful hand-harvest, conservative extraction and maturation in French oak—this vintage has developed tertiary complexity with time in bottle. Expect some sediment; gentle decanting will open aromatics and soften mature tannins.
Serve & Ageing: Best enjoyed now with a 30–60 minute decant to settle and reveal layers. Pairs beautifully with roasted and gamey dishes, mushrooms and nutty cheeses.
