2020 Chateau Palmer (3ème Grand Cru Classé) shows the hallmark balance and silk of its terroir. Aromas open to intense black fruits — cassis, black cherry and ripe plum — layered with violets, cedar, graphite and subtle black-truffle earthiness. On the palate it is powerful yet refined: dense, polished fruit wrapped in silky, well-integrated tannins and bright mineral verve that keeps the wine focused. The oak is beautifully melded after élevage in large foudres and barrels, producing a long, savoury finish. Producer notes: Château Palmer champions a single-terroir philosophy: 66 hectares of gravelly soils above the Gironde estuary, tended by a committed team to create wines of focus, balance and length. The estate is managed by Thomas Duroux, under the ownership of the Sichel and Mähler-Besse families. Total production for 2020 was c.109,648 bottles. Winemaking notes: The 2020 vintage received meticulous treatment — fermentation with modern and large-format wood vessels, use of gentle extraction and extended élevage in a mix of large foudres and barrels to integrate oak and preserve texture. Techniques in the vintage included careful SO2 management and selection of yeasts to protect aromatic purity. Bottled under cork, the wine is made for long ageing but offers an immediate, sumptuous presence with decanting. Vineyard notes: Planted on classic Margaux gravel, the vineyard benefits from a cooling estuarine microclimate and grassy row management that promotes healthy ripening and freshness. The soils of ancient alluvial origin contribute to the wine’s mineral backbone and layered complexity.
