Tasting note
A striking Pomerol from a single, closely managed block, this 2022 bottling shows concentrated dark-fruit aromas—blackberry, black plum and cassis—framed by floral violet notes and subtle layers of tobacco, truffle and nougat. On the palate it is full-bodied and dense yet remarkably elegant: silky, well-structured tannins spread across the mouth, balanced by lively acidity and a persistent, mineral-tinged finish. The wine spent 15 months in French oak after controlled-temperature vinifications in oak vats to ensure gentle extraction, and cellar reports recommend generous ageing for those who prefer more tertiary complexity. Crafted under the Thienpont family’s care with careful plot-by-plot management, this is a powerful, refined expression of the estate’s terroir—ready to reward medium-term cellaring or to impress after a focused decant.
Winery
Vieux Château Certan is a historic Pomerol estate managed by the Thienpont family. The property is planted as a single 14-hectare block divided into 23 individually managed plots, with an average vine age around 50 years. Meticulous, plot-specific viticulture and temperature-controlled vinification—combined with 15 months in French oak—produce wines of natural concentration and longevity under the oversight of Alexandre Thienpont and winemaker Guillaume Thienpont.
